Pallekele, Mar 19: Rajasthan Kings emerged victorious in the first-ever Legends Cricket Trophy, a 90-ball per-side cricket tournament, defeating the New York Superstar Strikers by 20 runs in a thrilling final at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday (March 19).

Rajasthan Kings were led by former India cricketer and IPL legend Robin Uthappa while one of India's greatest white-ball cricketers, Yuvraj Singh, captained the New York Superstar Strikers in the tournament as they turned the clock backwards with their performances in the tournament held in Sri Lanka.

Nurse Shines with Bat and Ball for Rajasthan Kings In Final West Indian star Ashley Nurse played a pivotal role in Rajasthan's triumph. His explosive knock of 97 runs off just 41 balls, laced with 12 boundaries and 6 sixes, propelled the Kings to a competitive total of 179/4 in their allotted 90 balls. Nurse's all-around contribution continued with a crucial wicket in the Strikers' chase. Deservedly, he was awarded the Player of the Match for his stellar performance. Openers Robin Uthappa and Hamilton Masakadza provided a solid foundation for the Rajasthan Kings. While Uthappa departed early, Masakadza continued his dominant form with a quickfire 56 off 30 balls, including 7 fours and 2 sixes. The duo's 106-run partnership in just 53 balls set the tone for a strong total.

The Rajasthan Kings' bowling attack displayed exceptional discipline, restricting the star-studded NYSS batting lineup. Parvinder Awana proved economical, conceding only 26 runs and picking up a wicket in his three overs. All bowlers chipped in, with five out of six taking wickets, making it difficult for the Strikers to chase down the target.

LCT 2024: NYSS Falter Despite Yuvraj Singh's Late Heroics

Chasing a challenging 180 runs, the New York Superstar Strikers got off to a cautious start. Openers Chadwick Walton and Alviro Petersen failed to capitalize on the powerplay, leading to their early dismissals. Chamara Kapugedera provided some hope with a brisk 30 off 15 balls, but his wicket claimed by Ashley Nurse put the Strikers further behind. Yuvraj Singh, the NYSS captain, remained quiet until the 12th over before unleashing his signature power-hitting. He smashed three sixes in the 13th over and followed it up with four boundaries and a maximum in the 14th, racing to a fifty off just 20 balls. However, his valiant effort came a little too late, as he was dismissed on the third ball of the final over, leaving his team 28 runs short of the target.

LCT 2024: Rajasthan Kings Emerge Deserving Champions The Rajasthan Kings' collective bowling effort, coupled with Nurse's brilliance and contributions from Masakadza and Uthappa, proved too strong for the Superstar Strikers. Captain Robin Uthappa's strategic leadership was also a key factor in their well-deserved victory, marking them the inaugural champions of the Legends Cricket Trophy.
